From childhood onwards we develop patterns of movement and posture that are very distinct and specific to each individual. Some of these patterns are beneficial, some less than optimal, but are unconscious and become our second nature, so that they seem to us to be given and unchangeable.
Feldenkrais uses gentle, directed movements that initiate an inner neurological learning process, resulting in the brain reorganising the body and its movements. The change is organic and automatic and happens through awareness of how we move and experiencing new possibilities, rather than through exercises or external manipulation. As the body progressively becomes more connected, movement and posture improve and breathing gets easier.
As our brain can learn and change throughout our life we can improve and widen our abilities regardless of age or physical condition.
